The Boss BV9384NV is one of the newer knives from you guessed it, “Boss”. The BV9384NV uses AUS-8 blade steel with a satin finish accompanied by milled grooves on both sides that are similar to those on some Spyderco models. This knife has G10 scales over stainless steel liners and locks screw construction just like most of the knives in its price range. There’s also a non-removable steel pocket clip attached directly to one side scale which only provides a tip-up carry option.

The overall length is 7 5/8 inches long when completely open so it can be considered as a large folding knife. There’s also a small hole at the pommel of this knife which doubles as a lanyard attachment point and glass breaker in case you’ll ever need it for emergencies only. The Boss BV9384NV comes with a pocket clip attached to one side scale and the retail price is around $50 bucks.

So here comes the good part because you don’t have to take my word for it. I have been using this knife as an EDC for a few months now and all of the reviews written below are based on facts. Below is a list of things that I absolutely love about this knife followed by a few other random facts, pros, cons and other kinds of stuff.

  • AUS-8 Steel Blade: While most knives in its price range come with 8Cr13MoV steel blades, The Boss BV9384NV has AUS-8 blade steel which is considered as one of the best steels for making folding knives. It’s proven to be tough and durable but still easy to sharpen plus it has better resistance to corrosion than other types of steel such as 8Cr13MoV.
  • Milled Grooves on Both Sides: The milled grooves on both sides of the blade offer better grip and do not allow this knife to slip in your hands when in use, especially in wet conditions. These grooves also add to the visual beauty and appeal of this knife so it’s a win-win situation for me. There are also two small holes at the base of the handle which can be used to attach a lanyard or keychain but if you have too much stuff attached you might have some problem gripping this knife properly.
  • Screw Construction: This type of construction allows anyone to easily remove, clean, and maintain this folding knife. Of course, you can’t disassemble this knife as far as the blade is concerned but it makes cleaning easy so you won’t have a hard time removing those small pieces of dirt and grime inside the handle or under the pocket clip.
  • Wide and Long Blade: The blade on this knife is 3/8 inches wide and 4 5/8 inches long, perfect for an EDC pocket knife. It’s practical enough that’s why I’m using it every day for cutting boxes, ropes, opening mail, and other types of common tasks at work. This type of size also allows me to use this thing for self-defense purposes if ever I’ll encounter some crazy person with a gun.

Design and Appearance

Boss BV9384NV is a large knife that measures 7 5/8 inches long when completely opened. This folding knife has a blade that is 4 5/8 inches long with milled grooves on both sides of the blade. The G10 scales have been attached to stainless steel liners and the lock-back mechanism provides a slim profile for this knife but still allows easy opening and closing of this thing.

I have used a lot of low-cost knives in my life as an EDC pocket knife and most of them turned out to be crap because they’re not made from quality materials or fail to keep an edge after a few days of use, some even rusted after I first got them wet. That’s why I was hesitant at first to try out The Boss BV9384NV but I’m so glad that I took the chance because this knife has been a real trooper.

In terms of its performance, this thing does not disappoint especially when it comes to its blade which is always sharp and pretty much holds an edge for weeks. It cuts through cardboard boxes like a hot knife through butter and even slices open envelopes without destroying them or leaving any trace of paper cuts.

This thing is also tough as nails because it has survived many drops onto concrete floors from my work table with no cracks or scratches on either scales or blades. Plus it has passed the water test as well after accidentally dropping this thing in a sink full of water for about 60 seconds.

I also like the screw construction of this knife because it makes cleaning and maintenance easy. I just use a cotton bud dipped in alcohol to clean dirt, grime, and small particles that may get trapped inside the scales plus I remove the screws every few weeks just to clean any dirt or debris underneath them.

Finally, its slim profile allows for an easy fit in my jeans pocket even when fully closed so I can carry this thing without any problems at work or while doing errands around town.

Sound Quality

The sound quality here is pretty decent although there aren’t any lows or bass which you’ll hear on headphones. The mids and highs are clear though so I really like using this thing to listen to music while cleaning my room, doing chores around the house, or just enjoying some downtime at home.

I’m really happy with this product because for its price it has great features that can compete with expensive counterparts plus it offers good performance especially when it comes to its blade. With all these details in mind, I think this product deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

Product Description

Boasting a drop point blade with thumb studs and finger flip opening, the BV9384NV from Boss offers excellent cutting capabilities without being too flashy for daily use. This folding knife has a unique skull-shaped handle with textured inlays that not only look good but enhance its overall design. It’s made of solid stainless steel with a matte black finish to give this thing an edgy look.

The blade has a stonewash finish that prevents glare and glints especially when checking out the edge for nicks or wear. This is a manual opener so you’ll have to apply some elbow grease before it can be deployed. When opened, this thing locks securely into place using the spring-loaded Lockback mechanism so those with an active lifestyle will enjoy its performance in action.

You can carry this thing around either tip-up or tip-down but I recommend carrying it with the clip since it can take up valuable pocket space when carried deep down your pants. For those looking for a more elegant pocket knife, I suggest checking out similar models like Benchmade 937 which has carbon fiber handles and tri-angle reversible pocket clip plus you’ll also find knives that come with a thicker blade like the Kershaw 1605CKTST Clash Folding Knife.

This product gets a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars because it’s a great alternative to more expensive pocket knives that have the same features.

Q: Where is this product made?

A: This pocket knife is designed in Taiwan and manufactured in China.

Q: Where can I get replacement parts for this knife?

A: All the components of the BV9384NV are factory replacements so you won’t need to order spare parts like screws, washers, or etc. since you can easily find these things at hardware stores even locally. If ever a part needs replacing, you’ll have to contact Boss directly as they’re the only ones who distribute spare parts for this model. However, do note that there’s no warranty card or instruction manual included with your purchase so if you lose those you’ll also need to contact the manufacturer instead.

Q: Is it a smooth opener?

A: Yes, the opening mechanism of this thing is smooth and you won’t have any problems with it.

Q: What are some knives that are comparable to the BV9384NV?

A: There are many similar affordable pocket knives but I think you should also check out Benchmade Griptilian 551 which uses different handle materials but has a similar size, design, and blade shape. Another knife worth checking out is Bark River Bravo 1 LT because it has a thicker blade but comes at a more expensive price point.

Q: Is this knife legal to own?

A: This pocket knife is legal to own so you won’t have any problems with it. However, some states do prohibit the use of automatic knives for civilians so make sure that’s not the case before carrying this thing around during your travels.

Q: How can I sharpen this blade without ruining its edge?

A: There are many ways on how you can sharpen your blade but I suggest checking online tutorials or videos first just to be safe. You don’t want to spend time doing something that’s unsafe and ineffective so always look into things before making a decision.

Most people usually recommend using an AccuSharp 001 Knife Sharpener since it’s quick and easy plus it’s also small enough to fit in your pocket.

Q: How can I use the lanyard hole at the handle of this knife?

A: Since this product is very affordable, it doesn’t come with a lanyard so you’ll have to get one on your own. A paracord rope works well with this thing especially if you want something that’s more durable than a regular nylon cord.

The Boss BV9384NV isn’t an automatic knife but it’s still pretty cool to use once you get the hang of using this thing. You can unlock its locking mechanism with either side so both left-handed and right-handed people will be able to use this without any issues.

The blade is made from VG-10 steel since it has high corrosion resistance, great edge retention, and takes on a nice stonewash finish that prevents that unwanted glare off shiny surfaces like windows or other reflective surfaces. It also comes with a titanium carbo-nitride coating for added protection against corrosion which basically makes your blade more durable than ever before.

This product is recommended by many people because of its affordable price tag yet doesn’t skimp on quality features. I hope you enjoyed reading my review and found it helpful to your needs.

The handle is made from FRN which is short for Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon. It’s basically a type of plastic that’s very lightweight, tough, and affordable.

The textured design at the sides allows for better grip while the lock back mechanism locks the blade in place pretty securely so there’s no need to worry about accidents or injuries when using this thing around people who are unaware of what you might be doing with your knife.

The belt clip at the back can be removed if ever needed but most people just leave it in place without worrying too much about its presence since it doesn’t get in the way of the user.
